WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF INFERTILITY?

There are many causes of infertility in both men and women. Some of the causes are very simplistic and easy to cure while others are complex and incurable. Many people suffer from an unexplainable form of infertility. They are able without much effort to conceive their first child but can not seem to get pregnant a second time. 
There are different causes for men and women. Some causes are similar among the two sexes like hormonal issues can exist in both men and women and can affect each sex similarly. For example when a women in struggling with a hormonal issue her ovulation will be interrupted while with a man the production of viable sperm will be reduced if there is a hormonal issue at play.

In Women 

The causes of infertility in women range from hormonal problems which affect ovulation to congenital defects. Other causes include: 
  • Infection- infection of the pelvis some STD’s any bacterial or viral infections can damage the tubes and cause scarring.
  • Tubal disease caused by previous surgeries, there are some surgeries that can cause scarring to the tube which prevents an egg from getting down the tube.
  • Ectopic pregnancy- when an egg becomes fertilized in the tube it can cause a host of issues even if the problem is caught early on and easily repaired the damage may be done.
  • Follicle problems ( which are currently unexplained) the follicle is released from the ovary but never erupts to reveal the egg so it never makes it out of ovary or down the tubes. 
As mentioned earlier there are some cases where the cause can never be determined like with the second child infertility cases. There is no known cause and for all intents and purposes a pregnancy should take place but it just does not however this phenomenon normally self corrects over time without any intervention.

In Men 

Male infertility can result from a host of issues. There are several things that need to occur for a man to be fertile. If any of the processes are interrupted than the result will be infertility.  The easiest cause of infertility to cure is when the infertility is due to certain medications, you stop the medication and you become fertile. 
Male infertility can range from wearing underwear that causes the sperm to die from being kept to warm to serious medical conditions like cancer, infections Varicocele and other medical problems. The only way to determine what is causing the infertility is to have the series of tests conducted that will help to find the issue.
